care guide

caring for your forma furniture will ensure it looks and feels its best for years to come. please follow these guidelines and refer to your specification sheet for full care and maintenance details specific to your product. for any further questions, our showroom team is always happy to help.

sofas & cushioning

feather cushions require regular plumping and turning to retain their shape and comfort. we recommend doing this each time you vacuum your home. plumping is a vigorous exercise — our showroom team are happy to show you the technique if you’d like a demonstration.

foam cushions should be vacuumed regularly using an upholstery attachment and rotated each time you vacuum to ensure even wear.

with both feather and foam, fabric and inners will move by up to 20% over time. this is a natural part of the ageing process and is not a manufacturing defect — no manufacturer has control over this movement.

fabrics

vacuum your upholstered furniture regularly using an upholstery attachment to remove dust, which can affect fabric quality over time. we recommend having your upholstered furniture professionally cleaned once a year.

always refer to your fabric care label before attempting any cleaning, and consult a professional if you are unsure. avoid spot cleaning where possible, but if necessary, first confirm the fabric composition allows it, then blot gently with a clean paper towel or microfibre cloth. never rub — this can spread the stain and damage the fabric structure. for persistent stains, check the specific cleaning requirements of your fabric before proceeding.

do not apply any fabric protectant products to forma upholstery, as doing so will void your warranty.

warranty periods for upholstery are as follows: 20 years on frames and construction, 10 years on foam or feather fill, and 5 years on workmanship. fabric warranties are held with the individual fabric supplier.

timber

timber is a living material. even after it has been crafted into furniture, it continues to respond to its environment — including light, temperature, humidity, and everyday use. understanding this will help you care for it properly.

avoid placing timber furniture in direct sunlight or near heat pumps or air conditioning units for prolonged periods. do not place hot items such as plates or laptops directly onto the surface, as this may cause excessive movement in the timber.

as your furniture ages, the natural colour of the timber will mellow and deepen. this is a normal result of oxidation and exposure to ultraviolet light, and is part of the character of a natural material.

the lacquer or water-based finish on your furniture provides lasting protection against dirt and moisture. spot cleaning with a clean, damp cloth is fine, but avoid excess water on the surface and always dry with a fresh cloth immediately afterwards. wipe up any spills immediately. take care with vases, table runners, or any items that may trap moisture against the surface, as prolonged contact can cause damage.
