peter marie vase #26

vase no. 26 is a one-of-a-kind work by peter marie that pairs two materials at opposite ends of his practice. at the top, a faceted cobalt glass vessel — cut like a gemstone, deep enough to hold the light blue and let it pool in the lower facets. resting in its mouth, a small matte black sphere, the quietest possible counterweight to all that colour.

below, the glass is held in a dark, layered cradle: perforated metal sheets stacked into a curved sleeve, lifted on angular geometric legs. the base reads almost industrial — closer to a piece of architecture than a plinth — and the contrast is deliberate. the glass looks suspended, presented, the way a museum mounts something that matters.

a statement piece. best given space — a console, an entry table, a low pedestal of its own — and a single stem or branch if used as a vase, though the work stands fully on its own without one.
